Democratic candidates for Congress in Virginia’s 9th Congressional District discuss their views in a 60-minute forum format for the audience to have an opportunity to see, hear, and question* candidates. This is the second in a series of four forums (1/24 Pennington Gap, 2/24 Clifton Forge, 3/24 Martinsville, 4/21 Wytheville).

Candidate Eligibility. Candidates for the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s 9th Congressional District 2018 primary June 12, 2018, who have filed with the FEC as an official candidate no later than 10 days prior to a schedule forum to allow for 7 days notice compliance with DPVA Party Plan, Section 9.5 Notice Requirements, Meetings.


Sen. Creigh Deeds: Sen. Deeds public service career began in 1987 when he was elected to serve as the Commonwealth’s Attorney of Bath County. He has represented the 25th district since 2001, and prior to that he was a Member of the House 1992-2001. He serves on three Senate standing committees: Courts of Justice, Privileges and Elections, Transportation. He was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Virginia in 2005 and Governor of Virginia in 2009. Born in Richmond, BA from Concord College, JD from Wake Forest University School of Law. He is married to Siobhan Deeds. He is a member of Millboro Presbyterian Church. Sen. Deeds chairs the Joint Subcommittee to Study Mental Health Services in the Twenty-First Century. He also serves on the Small Business Commission, the Standards of Learning Innovation Committee, the State Water Commission, the Joint Commission on Transportation Accountability, and the Joint Committee to Study Interstate 73. All tickets are free, and admission is by ticket only. Ticket requests will be available online in advance up to 8:00 pm the day prior to the forum at Tickets will be available at the door (same information required of attendees as online ticket requests).


* Questions for the candidates will come from three sources:

  • public submission in an online form – 4-6 questions per forum as time permits; a person may submit more than one question in separate entries, online entries are only accepted from residents of Virginia; TO SUBMIT QUESTIONS
  • moderator – 2 questions
  • forum attendees – 2 questions
