Got a favorite dessert recipe? You don’t have to make a lot, but bring enough to share with your friends :-)

Dessert contest, judged by our special guests in 4 categories: cookies, dessert bars (brownies, lemon bars, etc.), cupcakes, and candies (fudge, brittle, bark, etc.).

  • must be homemade, not store bought, doesn’t have to be from scratch
  • finger-food only, no cakes / cake slices, can be bars cut out of pans
  • no desserts requiring refrigeration, e.g. ice cream

To Enter

Just bring your dessert, check-in with our contest coordinator, and fill out a contest card when you arrive (contact information, recipe highlights [e.g. gluten free], cautions [e.g. nuts]). NOTE: to be judged entries must arrive no later than 2:15 the day of the event.

October 15, 1960  2:00 P.M. – Speech at “Acres of Democrats” rally, 4-H Club Center near Abingdon.

“Presidential candidates had ignored Southwest Virginia, and Appalachia generally, and the Kennedy campaign was the first in a generation to campaign in the region. Three thousand turned out in Abingdon to hear Truman and 12,000 turned out to hear Kennedy in Bristol.
